Blast for The Children’s Trust

PRESS RELEASE

Tadworth Cricket Club’s 2019 Charity Blast raises funds for The Children’s Trust

On Sunday 30th June, six teams competed in the 3rd annual Tadworth Cricket Club (TCC) Charity Blast.

As in previous years, the charity supported was the Children’s Trust, and TCC were delighted to raise

£2,750

on the day.

This year’s event was bigger than ever and included local teams from The Children’s Trust, the Royal Automobile Club CC, Epsom College, Chinthurst Old Boys, Free Foresters and Sutton & Epsom Jackals in a new, shorter format featuring six 8 ball overs.

In Group 1 Tadworth CC were beaten easily by the Epsom College & Chinthurst Old Boys XI who chased down 50 runs in just 21 balls. Tadworth recovered to beat the Free Foresters, chasing down 79 with a single off the final ball of their innings. Then, in the surprise result of the group, the Free Foresters defended an under-par total of 67 against Epsom College & Chinthurst Old Boys, restricting them to just 63. With each team winning just one game, Epsom College & Chinthurst Old Boys won the group due to their superior run rate. The notable performance in the group was Charlie Young who took 4 wickets in his two overs.

In Group 2, the Children’s Trust XI got off to a winning start against a Sutton & Epsom Rugby XI posting a big score of 82 which was never threatened. They went on to chase down a below par 58 by the RAC XI, although the loss of 3 wickets in their last 9 balls did increase the tension for the winning team. The Sutton & Epsom Rugby XI then defended a score of 67 against the RAC XI quite comfortably to come second in the group.

The final was played at 6:30pm with the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Councillor Keith Foreman, a keen cricketer himself, bowling the opening ball to get things under way! A tight final match was won by the Children’s Trust team.

After the final, the raffle prize draw and auction raised £2,750 for the Children’s Trust which will go towards providing equipment for the children. Raffle and auction prizes were kindly donated by local shops and businesses, and included a Tadworth Cricket Club shirt signed by Phil Tufnell, an ambassador of the Children’s Trust.

Throughout the day there were lots of activities for adults and children, with the Pimms tent, ice cream cart, face painting and the tea & cake stall particularly popular. A live DJ played music all day long and the BBQ and bar stayed open late.

More information, pictures of the day and a list of local shops and businesses supporting the event can be found on www.tccblast.org.

Thank you to all for your support.

Dalton Leong, Chief Executive of The Children’s Trust said:

“we are extremely grateful to Tadworth Cricket Club and everyone who supported this brilliant local event. I enjoyed watching the format and, of course, the end result: with Team Children’s Trust lifting the winners’ trophy! The sum raised will directly support children with brain injury”

Keep an eye out for next year’s event which will be on Sunday 5th July 2020!

Pre-Season Update

Our Square – Saturday 23 March 2019

Dear All

Welcome to the the first Chairman’s update of the year – 2019

Work party
The season is getting closer and our preparations for the cricketing year are hotting up.

We do need some help from as many of you as possible to finalise the pavilion for the start of the new season.

Please come along and join us on either Sat 30th March or Sat 13th April.

There are a wide range of jobs to complete and something for everyone. (for just an hour or several)

If you fancy doing a bit of gardening bring some equipment to strip back the undergrowth around the pavilion.

For less strenuous tasks we will have cleaning in the pavilion or putting down carpets etc.

Pavilion should be open from 9.15 am and you will get an early look at the new facilities, to enhance the member experience

Pre season Social – Friday April 26th

In addition we would like to announce our plans for a pre season social event.

On Friday 26th April we plan to have a games night in the pavilion with pizzas that we will order in based on number of people that commit.

We will charge 10 pounds per head and will need to collect money up front.

We are still finalising the ideas but we are thinking that we will have a pool tournament, a darts tournament, dominoes and a range of other games during the evening.

Please get this date in your diaries now and confirm attendance to Craig or any member of committee ASAP

Nets at Epsom College

There will NOT be a net session this Sunday (March 31st) – a free week due to Mothering Sunday so get in the good books ahead of the season! However nets will be back on 7th and 14th – 2 more opportunities to feel ball in hand or bat on ball

Looking forward to the season it what promises to be a significant year for English cricket – World Cup and Ashes rolled in to one. Best wishes

Craig
