Our Chairman’s 2021 Report
Tadworth CC Club Report for 2021 season written by Chairman, Craig Stevenson.
2021 was another season affected by COVID but it was a year that saw the continued growth of the Tadworth Cricket Club junior section and a full season of senior cricket was allowed (when the weather permitted). On the field it was great to see so much Junior Cricket being played – thanks to the grounds team for their work in preparing outfield pitches that can be used for soft and hardball cricket matches and practice. The juniors seem to be enjoying their cricket and whilst there were mixed fortunes in terms of results the fact that Tadworth Cricket Club are enabling cricket to be played across the younger age groups hopefully bodes well for the future of Tadworth Cricket Club .
The success of the 2021 season was to see the introduction of a Saturday 3rd XI allowing younger members to blend with those with more experience to learn the longer format of the game. Well done Majid. The Saturday League teams were competitive in parts and as availability allowed but squad availability that is a struggle of many a village cricket club . The Sunday XI does need more focus – the quality of the opposition is often strong and we need to have more players who will play more regular Sunday cricket to keep the friendly cricket alive in Tadworth. This will be a focus of the committee and if anyone has friends or acquaintances that want to get back in to cricket please recommend Tadworth Cricket Club to them
Despite COVID, the last 2 seasons have seen Tadworth Cricket Club strengthen financially. The strength of junior membership and the strong social feel to a Friday night have been important as have the introduction of the cashless till system AND the introduction of TEAMO to manage availability/selection and collection of fees. The captains and Vice captains can now track who has paid and this means we have a more reliable mechanism for checking income. This investment has been worth it. The strong financial situation ensures that we can maintain the facilities to a good standard, invest in the cricketing facilities and hopefully optimise the whole experience for members and guests alike.
I want to pass on my personal thanks to the Tadworth Cricket Club Committee who work hard behind the scenes to keep Tadworth CC moving forward. This committee has a range of skills and ideas all of which are channeled positively for the good of the club. The committee are Chris Hemmings, Rachael Carvill, Majid Azam, Mark Lawry, Mark Anthony, Simon Harris and Mike Wren-Kirkham. I have enjoyed working with them all.
The clubs thanks should also go to Mike W-K, Simon H, and Majid for their work as senior team captains and match day organisers. Without their tireless and largely unseen efforts we would not get teams organised to play. A variety of people supported the Sunday XI and we thank them for their efforts too. We still need to strengthen our senior membership so that we can maintain support for all of our senior sides so please be on the lookout for new members
Thanks to Mark Antony for his tireless efforts with our Juniors. It was good to see his efforts recognised at Surrey CC’S equivalent of the Oscars in 2021 – he didn’t win the prize but the nomination was thoroughly deserved. Mark A, Mike W-K and the Chairman have been critical to our coaching on a Friday evening and we thank them for their dedication. What is also great to see is more parents taking on the management of the junior teams. Ed (x2), Neil, Simon and others the club thanks you for your time/commitment . More volunteers would always be welcomed particularly on a Friday night and so if you can spare a couple of hours to help us maintain the social and the cricketing components of Junior cricket that would be much appreciated.
There are many activities in any cricket club that go unseen by many. I want to pass on my thanks to all members who support Tadworth Cricket Club by umpiring/scoring matches, , working behind the bar, turning up to club work parties. Thank you to everyone. We would not be the club we are today without you.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM. We want more of you to be involved in decision making and to hear your views as to how we can continue to improve things for you, the Tadworth Cricket Club members, in 2022.
