“On behalf of all the children, young people and families we support at The Children’s Trust, I wish all those taking part in the 2022 Tadworth Charity Blast event, a great day of cricket.

And, to everyone attending today, thank you so much for supporting the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury and neurodisability. We are extremely proud of our local ‘Tadworth’ heritage and equally proud that we now reach tens of thousands of children throughout the country via our Brain Injury Community Service (in partnership with several children’s hospitals) and our online portal, the BrainInjuryHub.co.uk.

In 2017, TCC decided to adopt the Children's Trust in Tadworth as its local charity, and the first 'Tadworth T20 Blast' in aid of the Children's Trust was held on 2nd July. The first Sunday in July has traditionally been our President’s Day – a day for all Tadworth teams to come together – so it seemed very appropriate to use this day to host the event. Tadworth’s new kit now also proudly and prominently features the Children’s Trust logo.

Four teams participated in the inaugural Blast, which attracted many spectators, friends and families from the local community. The all day BBQ, Tea & Cake Stall and especially the Young's Pimms Tent proved particularly popular. The day was rounded off successfully by the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, who presented the winning trophy and raffle prizes on a glorious summer’s evening.

Following on from the success of the first Tadworth T20 Blast, which featured teams each captained by one of our younger players, in 2018 we expanded the format to include six teams.

In 2019, more teams were represented and as the 6-over Blast Off Final in 2018 was a real highlight, we introduced a shorter format to the matches.

2020 and 2021 - Covid attacked, but it didn't win!

Games and activities

£45 could provide a child with specialist cooking equipment and a sports kit, so they can relearn the skills and movements to help with balance and co-ordination.

£300 could provide a tablet so that a child can re-learn how to communicate with their friends and family, or play the games they enjoyed playing at home, so it doesn’t feel like therapy.

Clever equipment

£100 could help us buy another clever walking frame so that a child with a brain injury, who's lost the ability to walk, can relearn how to get up onto their feet again, and take those first precious steps.

£700 could buy another adapted trike, so 30 children a year can experience the boost of being able to cycle again around our lovely grounds in the fresh air.

Outings

£95.60 could take a group of eight children on an outing to make their own pizzas. Here the children make themselves a pizza of their choice, using their hands and arms to knead the dough and even help clear up by wiping the tables and floors. They then sit around a table and enjoy eating their creation together.

£170 could take five children with brain injuries climbing, where they can challenge themselves to move in different ways, whilst having fun, taking pride in a new achievement and seeing what’s possible.
